I recently read a story about a father asking his little son to judge the size of an aeroplane flying high in the sky and the boy opined that an aeroplane is a small object. The Father then took the son to an airport where the child could closely see the aeroplane and now the son marvelled at how big an aeroplane really is!
I have a myopic eyesight. It means I am short-sighted and I need corrective lenses in other to clearly see far distanced objects. Without my eye lenses, things are a bit blurry and it’s difficult to see details or get the full features of an object, a person or even written words and pictures. In order words, at that particular point in time, I cannot clearly make a decision or categorically state my full knowledge of the particular object in question until I wear my lenses.
Do you have the true picture of that situation? Do you have all the facts? Have you moved in closer to see the full details of your particular interest before you can confidently take a decision or make conclusions about that situation?
Thinking of the above really got me thinking on how we take decisions or make judgements on issues or events. Many of us have taken decisions without getting full or clearer details of a particular subject, situation or a person and many a time we are wrong or make incomplete conclusions that is based on incomplete knowledge.
We have judged people based on hearsays, social media projections and general perceptions without making efforts to get closer to dig out the truth, clarify the information received before taking a decision. Some of us are already cynical in nature so we judge every issue with our cynical eyes. I have also seen that some of us, because of our religious, political and social inclinations have judged issues or people based on these inclinations rather than seeking to really get closer to acquire necessary information and data so as to make informed decisions.
The social media is so hyped up these days that a lot of manipulation goes on there with propagandas being pushed out that many unsuspecting people fall victim of, believing all they see and hear without taking the due diligence to research and verify the information they have received. This is also the medium that many marketing and branding experts utilize so much thereby making a thriving opportunity to advance their cause.
Do you have the true picture of that situation? Do you have all the facts? Have you moved in closer to see the full details of your particular interest before you can confidently take a decision or make conclusions about that situation?
I believe that there is a place of faith (that is believing without seeing or having full information) as offered by the Bible, the same Bible also said that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. It also encourages us to study the bible more so that we can get more details and information about God so that we can strengthen that faith and have fuller and clearer understanding of God.
I encourage we always put on our ‘corrective eye lenses’ and get a clearer picture before we judge. I ask that we get closer to that person and learn more before we castigate. We should try and acquire more knowledge too, this is by getting close to other relevant knowledge resources and books (reading them!) Get closer to God so you can get more acquainted with his ways and acts!
Being afar off has its limitations, I advocate you don’t make judgements till you get closer, it becomes clearer and you understand more.
I see you!
