Some days back, I was taking my usual evening brisk walk around my neighbourhood and a lady stopped me expressing her admiration over my diligence in my daily evening walks and openly mused her wish of walking like that. After thanking her and returning to my task at hand, it got me thinking back on how it started for me, walking every evening a far cry from my initial plan of walking at least twice a week. I had challenged myself further after a few weeks of walking twice in a week to three times and now I walk every evening!
In all, I have discovered that sustainability is key to achieving one’s goal. For me, it boils down to making all your activities to become habits. Habits, when formed, becomes your way of life and it becomes easy for you implement. Also, understanding ones likes and comforts is also a key to driving sustainability.
It is important that you understand your goal and also recognise your capability and this typically should determine your pace in life activities. Your will and determination to achieve now becomes the booster to achieve more! Note that I didn’t say your limits because I have found out that most times we underestimate or overestimate our limits and this can adversely affect our set goals.
In my bid to be health fitness conscious, I started a couple of exercise routines. I tried several routines, listened to many people proposals of what they are doing, watched several fitness instructors and their proposed ‘best ‘way’ to exercise. I had even considered joining groups that are focused on counting their number of steps and compete for the highest daily or weekly walks.

Do not allow your perception of other people’s strength and pace to drive you into an activity that you cannot sustain over time. We learn from others, we watch and gain knowledge and insights on areas of interest by also watching and listening to others but we should understand that we all have unique abilities and capabilities.
In all, learn at a pace that applies and is sustainable for you. Do not let other people’s pace overwhelm and disorient you. Push yourself from your comfort zone but do not push so hard that you enter an unsustainable zone. Stretch is good but don’t stretch so hard that you end up breaking!
I see you!
