I recently read again about a woman who looking through her kitchen window, complains to her husband on how dirty their neighbour’s windows are. She has been doing this for a while and always wonders why they do not put any effort in cleaning their windows. Sometime later, she checked again and was quite surprised that the neighbour’s windows were now looking clean and on mentioning this to her husband, he told her that he(the husband) took his time to clean their own windows and that it was their windows that was actually dirty!
Many a time, we are always quick to criticize or point fingers at others when we perceive their shortcomings or we disagree with their actions or decisions made. We are quick to air our opinions on how we feel our government is not doing well. How corrupt people are and how unfair the systems and structures in our society is. We condemn the actions of people who are different from us. People of different beliefs and localities from us. We are also not comfortable or patient with people who are not intellectually at par with us and neither are we willing to accept a different perspective from ours.
Musing on this made me conscious of how it is important for us to be careful in our responses to certain situations or to people who are different from us. We should realise that we are not perfect ourselves. We all have our flaws. God has called us to be compassionate to those who are without. We should be careful with our words and understand that we are all human beings with feelings and emotions.
I have heard it said that we are guilty of that which we constantly accuse people of. I have also been guilty of being critical and inconsiderate of people’s feelings in my bid to be proved right or to put cross my points to others. I also know I hate it when people do the same thing to me. Let’s check ourselves first before we point fingers to others. Let’s consider the feeling of others in our bid to correct, reprove and redirect.
The Bible said to remove the speck in our eyes before we point to that in others. Have you checked your windows recently?
I see you!
